College students and youth are using hookah without a full understanding of what it actually is.

Get the Facts!

Hookah is a water pipe, which uses charcoal (yes the ones you grill with) to heat tobacco. The tobacco that they put into these hookah pipes is called shisha. They add flavors such as grape, mango, apple, cappuccino, and many more to make it taste better and feel less harmful.

Some more shocking hookah facts are:

  • Smoking a hookah pipe for 60 to 80 minutes is the equivalent of smoking 100 cigarettes.
  • Even after it has passed through water, the smoke produced by a hookah contains high levels of toxic compounds, including carbon monoxide, heavy metals and cancer-causing chemicals.
  • Sharing a hookah may increase the risk of transmission of tuberculosis, viruses such as herpes or hepatitis, and other illnesses.
  • Secondhand smoke from hookahs poses a serious risk for non-smokers.

Don’t follow the hookah trend!

Now that you have the facts, it’s up to you to make the choice. Will you allow the deceitful advertising of a chill location to hang out with your friends that is actually the hotspot for a deadly activity? Or will you create your own advertisement and tell everyone what hookah is all about?
